I said I’d be back each week - and unlike my promise to never join LinkedIn, this is one I actually intend to keep.
It’s been another completely normal couple of weeks at The Spicy Librarian, by which I mean we’ve launched a festival, packed our first online orders, dropped a sprayed edge final book box, announced a ridiculous number of events and welcomed an entire film crew into the shop.
So, not normal at all.
First: our online shop is officially up and running, and seeing those first orders come through was a proper eeeek moment.
Our warehouse team has been picking and packing your books, learning what works, reorganising things approximately 400 times and sending our very first spicy parcels out into the world. Knowing that books from our shelves are now finding new homes across the whole country is incredibly exciting.
Please continue ordering them. We have thousands. No seriously, please do!
Then came the small matter of announcing Here Now.
Yes, The Spicy Librarian is launching a festival.
From 16–19 September 2027, we’re taking over a nearby venue for a huge celebration of romance, books, music and the incredible community that has grown around TSL. This is something we’ve been working on quietly for a long time, so finally being able to share it felt both exhilarating and slightly terrifying.
Within hours, thousands of you had joined the ticket waitlist. We knew you’d be excited, but the response has completely blown us away. There is so much more to reveal—from authors and artists to experiences and everything happening across the weekend—but you’ll have to be patient with us for just a little longer ;)
In the meantime, our events calendar is looking gloriously chaotic. We have author signings, Q&As, book clubs, midnight releases and as we go into October we are getting geared up for our MAASquerade balls!
As if all of that wasn’t enough, we also had a film crew in the building.
What were they filming? I’m not telling you.
You’ll have to wait until March to see it—but let’s just say that watching a full production crew take over the shop was another one of those moments where I looked around and wondered how on earth this had become our life.
Six months ago, we were opening the doors to a brand-new bookshop. Now, we’re sending orders across the country, filling our calendar with incredible events, appearing on camera and planning an entire festival.
It’s exciting. It’s overwhelming. It’s a little bit unhinged.
And we’re only just getting started.
